Metro Police Easter holidays roadblocks

Tuesday, April 26, 2011
The Metro Police Drunk and Driving squad, which was unveiled on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at the opening of the Alcohol Evidence Centre in Pinetown, was kept busy during the Easter Weekend as they worked tirelessly to rid the City of drunk motorists and to ensure that the roads were safe for all road users.

Since resuming their duties on Thursday, April 21, the team has arrested at least 225 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol. Over the past weekend, roadblocks were held in Umlazi's M35 (where 68 people were arrested for outstanding warrants of arrest), the beachfront, the city centre, Margaret Mncandi Avenue, Florida Road in Morningside and Durban North. Metro Police roadblocks will continue throughout the holiday period.

Metro Police spokesperson, Eugene Msomi, has warned all motorists to refrain from drinking and driving and to respect the rules of the road. Those who are found to be flouting the rules will face the full might of the law, he said.

Well done, Brighton Beach SAPS!

The Bluff CPF congratulates Colonel J du Toit and his team at Brighton Beach SAPS on their overall commitment during the World Cup. A number of postivie reports were received from visitors and residents of how well everything was policed. Particular mention has been made regarding the continued dedication of Warrant Officer W van Vuuren, Warrant Officer JJ Sonnekus and Capt A Fabre for their work in their respective sectors and to Capt L le Roux for the distribution of pamphlets to the B&B's and ensuring direct contact between the community and SAPS.

The CPF looks forward to further strengthening ties with SAPS and with the community in ensuring that the positive attitudes resulting from a successful World Cup are maintained.

- Carl Knauff, Chairman, Bluff CPF

Warnings

Some warnings from SAPS Brighton Beach:
  • Try to take photographs of anyone or anything suspicious, but DO NOT endanger yourself.
  • Report any crime immediately - do not wait until tomorrow. The quicker a crime is reported to SAPS, the quicker they can react.
  • When employing casual labourers, negotiate the payment in advance and be sure to pay them as agreed, otherwise they may return unexpectedly intent on revenge for perceived injustices.
  • Be aware of strange parcels at ATMs - there may be explosives.
  • Downloading of child pornography on the internet and possession of such images will lead to the arrest and prosecution of suspects.

Predators

Please be aware that criminals have no shortage of intelligence. Knowing and understanding human behaviour comes with experience, and, just like any entrepreneur (or predator), they exploit weaknesses in character and behaviour. And they're patiently watching you, just waiting for the right moment!
