Sugars

WARNING

Sugars, a drug that consists of rat poison, heroin and cocaine, has ripped the Chatsworth community apart because of its horrifying effects on youth between the ages of 14 and 22.

THE FACTS

Sugars contains:

  • rat poison
  • heroin
  • household detergents
  • baby powder

Side effects:

  • severe back pain
  • psychosis (hallucination)
  • severe joint pain
  • lack of appetite
  • convulsions

Stages of addiction:

  • Stage 1: Denial stage, where addicts don't seem to accept that they are addicted.
  • Stage 2: Aggressive stage, where they become violent to anyone.
  • Stage 3: Voluntary stage, where they realise that they are in trouble and volunteer to go into rehabilitation.

The Domestic Violence Act 116 of 1998 allows a victim of domestic abuse or violence to seek a Protection Order from the Magistrate's Court against the person who is committing the abuse. A Dept of Justic publication, Put a Stop to Domestic Violence, gives the victim the information needed to bring an application for a Protection Order in terms of the Act. Both men and can be guilty of, and be victims of domestic violence.
